Tips on Buying Your First Airplane
I’ve been a professional aircraft sales person for a long time and if there’s one thing that the majority of first-time buyers don’t understand it’s the difference between buying from an individual owner and a reputable aircraft dealer. Most buyers mistakenly think they’ll get a better “deal” from a private seller. Not today. Thanks to the Internet, sellers are pretty savvy when it comes to the going price of their airplane. In fact, more times than not, they’re emotionally attached so they end up asking way too much. Because a dealer is selling multiple aircraft, they know and ask for a fair price. An individual is only able to sell you one airplane. An experienced dealer will take the time to analyze your situation and help you make an informed decision. That way you won’t end-up buying more seats or performance than you really need. An individual seller isn’t in any position to help you with meeting insurance or training requirements. An experienced dealer is there to help you with all the details that come with buying an airplane including arranging for transition training, insurance, financing, pre-sale inspections or whatever else you need. Plus, most dealers take trade-ins. The biggest advantage to working with an established dealer is that we are in it for the long haul. We want to make you happy so when it’s time to move-up to a bigger, faster airplane you’ll come back. In fact, we go so far as to say, “we won’t sell any plane we wouldn’t own ourselves.” And that’s not some slogan. At Premier, it’s company principle. If you don’t think that’s a benefit, give me a call and I’ll put you in touch with a few of our customers who have bought two or three airplanes from us. --- Fred Ahles is president of Premier Aircraft Sales.
