Communicating from your jet has never been so easy, efficient, or economical.

For the past few years in-flight communications have been unreliable, nonsecure, and limited in scope. So while you’ve been able to remain in contact with your office and clients to some degree, there’s been a frustrating element of disconnectedness.

Although that might be ummm—convenient sometimes, the business world generally waits for no one. EMS Satcom now provides a viable solution to the problem—eNfusion Broadband, a complete communication system that lets you stay in direct contact as much—or as little—as you want.

The purpose-built and certified EMS system offers voice and data/fax transmission, Web and private network access, and also e-mail and videoconferencing through seamless satellite connectivity. With this impressive true broadband solution on board, you will not feel out of touch when you turn off your mobile phone before takeoff. And VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) capability makes air-to-ground voice communications more economical than ever before.

Rather than being a costly extravagance, true high-speed network connectivity has become a necessity in maintaining a competitive advantage in today’s fast-paced business world. No longer will you have a compelling need to fire up your laptop at the FBO (fixed base operator) to catch up on countless important e-mails—you will have already received them, beamed in bits and bytes, while making tracks at flight level 410 and mach .85. Nor will you need to return numerous, and possibly timely, missed telephone calls after a five-hour flight. A major player in the design and development of satellite-based terminals and antennas, EMS provides solutions for aeronautical, maritime, and land-based mobile as well as search and rescue applications. The eNfusion Broadband system, which is comprised of a series of separate and selectable components to maximize user value and installation flexibility, has been installed or is being installed in more than 1,000 airplanes and helicopters around the world, including models manufactured by Gulfstream, Boeing, Falcon, Bombardier, Cessna, and Sikorsky.

The system’s high-gain AMT antennas and tail-mounted radomes have proven reliable over countless flight hours, are compatible with all Inmarsat Satcom systems, and are integral to the latest demands of airborne high-speed connectivity. EMS’s HSD 400 and 440 high-speed data terminals combine broadband data and voice into one unit and deliver high bandwidth to the CNX, the cabin network accelerator—the hub of the system. The CNX, where the magic of in-flight communication happens, provides data acceleration, acts as a router, and serves as an ISDN, a terminal adapter, and an Ethernet hub. It also provides telephony support and acts as a wireless hub over an 802.11G network. The CNX increases satcom network throughput up to 400 percent while consolidating all of the network features into one lightweight and rugged device.

The four Inmarsat satellites, in stationary geosynchronous orbits at an altitude of 36,000 km, guarantee effective global coverage for the EMS system. The eNfusion Broadband utilizes Inmarsat’s Swift64 service, which offers two types of data service—mobile ISDN and IP-based Mobile Packet Data Service (MPDS). Mobile ISDN is needed for large file transfers, graphics, and other bandwidth intensive applications such as videoconferencing; MDPS, which is the e-mail and Web access, works well for small to medium-size file transfers.

Compared to Iridium and Globalstar, Inmarsat effectively provides the best solution for reliable high-bandwidth satellite data transmission—the broadband performance you expect and want on your company or personal jet. So whether you want to upload the latest PowerPoint file to a branch office in Tokyo from high over the Pacific or download the latest Rolling Stones into your iTunes, consider using eNfusion Broadband from EMS Satcom. It’s the next generation in airborne business communications—and it’s certified and available now.
